Hailing from Ristiina in Southern Savonia, Finland, Dyecrest blend elements of melodic power metal, traditional heavy metal, and progressive influences. Known for their strong melodies, energetic riffs, and a distinctive balance between heaviness and emotion, the band has built a loyal fanbase both at home and abroad.
Dyecrest released their debut album, The Way of Pain, in 2004 via Sanctuary Group / Noise Records. That same year, they joined W.A.S.P. on a 27-show European tour, sharing the stage with DragonForce. Following the financial difficulties of Sanctuary Group later in 2004, the band parted ways with the label.
Their sophomore effort, This Is My World, came out in 2005 through Dockyard 1. After several active years, the band went on hiatus in 2008.
In 2018, Dyecrest made a powerful comeback with Are You Not Entertained?, released via Inverse Records. Their latest full-length album, Once I Had a Heart, dropped in autumn 2023 via Rockshots Records. The addition of vocalist Heidi Aaltonen later that year brought a renewed creative energy and a fresh focus on live performances and songwriting.
Dyecrest have played numerous club shows and festivals in Finland and beyond. Recent highlights include a performance at John Smith Rock Festival 2024, and Metal Night 2025 at Lappeenranta Ice Hall, where they shared the stage with Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica.
