Santonegro is a Valencian band that embarked on its musical journey in 2014, founded by Juan José. Drawing inspiration from the Rock, Grunge, and Metal movements of the '80s and '90s, their early tracks echo the raw energy of the underground scenes that gave rise to today’s legendary bands.
Following the release of their debut album, Derailing, Santonegro embarked on a successful tour across Spain, earning widespread acclaim from audiences and specialized media alike. In 2017, they released their breakout record, Flesh & Bones, under Art Gates Records, propelling them onto the international stage and solidifying their presence in the rock scene.
By 2019, the band underwent a lineup transformation with the addition of Víctor (drums) and Lenny (bass, vocals, and backing vocals). This fresh synergy led to the creation and recording of their next album in their own studio. Roots, mixed and mastered at New Sound Records, was unveiled on September 3, 2021. With this release, the band hit the road again, embarking on a tour across Spanish cities. The album received glowing reviews, including praise from The Metal Circus (Metal Hammer Spain), which hailed them as torchbearers of the national Stoner Rock movement.
As the tour concluded, Santonegro welcomed Dani (guitar) and David (bass) from the metal band Contra into their ranks. This reinvigorated lineup set the stage for their next chapter, culminating in the release of The Shelter in 2023.
Santonegro’s journey has seen them collaborate with acclaimed producer and sound engineer Raúl Abellán of The Mixtery—renowned for his work with Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Ankhara, Dragonfly, Noctem, Inmute, and more. Together, they brought Falling Down, the band’s latest album, to life, showcasing a sound that continues to evolve while staying true to their roots.
